Girl’s parents decline to take custody

By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, April 24: A court here witnessed on Monday the dark side of human relations when the separated parents of a 12-year-old girl refused to take her custody.

The girl was handed over to her uncle.

Reports said an Income Tax Deputy Commissioner, Baber Naeem Tariq, divorced his wife, while their 12-year old daughter Maleeha was adopted by her maternal grandmother who lived in US.

The grandmother sent the girl back to her parents, but they declined to take her custody as both had contracted second marriages.

The court then handed over the girl to her uncle Dr Umer Farooq.

However, the court directed the girl’s father to pay Rs8,000 per month to her uncle for her education and other expenditures.
