U-21 national championship from May 25


LAHORE, April 24: The national under-21 football championship will be played here at four centres from May 25 under the aegis of Wohaib football club, announced president, Wohaib Football Club, Hafiz Salman Butt at a news conference on Monday.

He said the event will be participated by thirty six teams belonging to four provinces, Departments, Services and Zones. The event will be played at Punjab university old campus grounds, Iqbal Park Sports Complex, Railways Stadium and Punjab Stadium.

Pakistan Football Federation, he said, has allocated the event to them and they will be fully sponsoring it.

It will be a very useful activity which will help in identifying fresh talent which will serve national football in years to come “, he added.

Salman said an important meeting of the Organising Committee will be held on May 1 to finalise all the arrangements for holding the championship in a befitting manner.

President of WFC said they were thankful to PFF for awarding this premier activity to them and with its revival the game of football will be greatly benefitted.

He said trials for the selection of Wohaib club team to take part in the competition will be held here from April 27.

“During the three-day trials we will be picking up forty players who will be trained in a camp which will commence from May first under the supervision of experienced coaches.” he said.

The former PFF secretary said, a selection committee headed by Masoodul Hasan and Hafiz Sohaib Butt, Tanveerul Hasan and Muhammad Riaz as its members will watch the trials in which players born after January first,1985 are eligible to participate.—APP
