Khurram and Imran to represent Pakistan


KARACHI, April 24: Pakistan's two top cueists, Khurram Agha and Imran Shahzad, will represent Pakistan in the Asia Snooker Championship scheduled to be held at Sirimavo Bandaranaike Exhibition Centre in Colombo (Sri Lanka) from June 30 to July 7, Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association announced on Monday.

Khurram of Sindh, who has represented Pakistan in three world championships, will be making his Asian debut while Imran Shahzad of Punjab is taking part for second time, PBSA joint secretary Arif Taherbhoy said.

The Asian Confederation of Billiards Sport (ACBS) has allocated the event to Billiards and Snooker Association of Sri Lanka.

The championship offers US$4,700 in prize money. Winner will get US$2,500, runner-up US$12,000 while third and fourth position holders will get US$600 and 300 respectively. US$100 will be given to cueist chalking out the highest break of the event.

The championship will be of best of seven frames in league rounds, best of nine in quarter and semifinal rounds and best of 11 frames in the final.Following countries are invited to figure in the eight-day competition: Bahrain, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, Macaw, Chinese Taipei, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Yemen and host Sri Lanka.—APP
