QUETTA, April 27: Political stability in the country is impossible without a new constitution framed in accordance with the aspirations of the federating units, according to leaders of the Pukhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party.

They were speaking at a public meeting held at the Bacha Khan Cchowk here on Thursday.

Senator Reza Mohammad Reza, parliamentary leader of the party in the provincial assembly Abdur Rahim Ziaratwal, Dr Kaleemullah, Abdur Rauf Lala, Obaidullah Babat, Uman Kakar and Yousf Khan called for recognition of oppressed nations’ rights.

The meeting adopted resolutions urging the government to arrest and punish the culprits behind the April 27 incident, calling for the framing of a new constitution with greater autonomy for provinces and control over their resources, demanded end to the military operation in Balochistan and resolution of the issue by political means.

They also urged the government to respect the resolution of the Balochistan Assembly against the levies-police merger. They also demanded that the government should address the demands of the Zamindar Action Committee and the Balochistan chapter of the Pakistan Medical Association.

The meeting also called for setting up a 500-MW national grid station in Quetta, connecting the city with Dera Ismail Khan transmission line via Zhob and reactivation of the closed units of the thermal powerhouse in Quetta.
