ISLAMABAD, April 27: The central leadership of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League appears to be divided on issues of party reorganisation, interaction and consultation among various tiers of leadership and non-fulfilment of pledges.
An informal meeting of the party leadership was held during a reception at the residence of Lt General (retired) Abdul Majeed Malik here on Thursday. The heads of the four factions which had merged into the party, Mian Manzoor Wattoo, Hamid Nasir Chattha, federal minister Ijazul Haq and Salim Saifullah Khan, Minister of State Tariq Azeem Khan, Syed Kabir Ali Wasti and Iqbal Dar attended the meeting.
PML sources told Online that a heated debate had taken place among the leaders at the meeting. The chiefs of the four factions complained against lack of efforts to mobilise the party for the forthcoming elections. They attributed non-completion of the general council of the central working committee in four years to what they termed incompetence of the party leadership.
They criticized what they called making the party a one-family affair, a one-man show and non-fulfilment of pledges made at the time of merger of the four factions into the PML.
They said they were not given what had been promised to them, adding that they were not being consulted about preparations for the general elections.
The sources said that Chaudhry Shujaat had also gone to the residence of General Abdul Majeed Malik to attend the reception and the leaders aired their views in his presence.
