Tribunal unseats MPA

Published April 29, 2006

LAHORE, April 28: An election tribunal on Friday ordered unseating of the ruling party MPA from Khushab, Saleh Mohammad Ganjial.

The tribunal gave the verdict while accepting a petition of Karam Elahi Bandial which said Mr Ganjial was not eligible to contest the election because he was sacked from the Pakistan Air Force on the charges of misconduct in 2001.

The tribunal cancelled the notification of Mr Ganjial’s election and directed the Election Commission to make arrangement to hold by-election to fill the vacancy.

Mr Bandial of the PPP was one of the candidates in October, 2002, election. He told the tribunal that he had filed an objection to the returning officer who rejected his plea and allowed Mr Ganjial to contest. — Correspondent
