Karachi Appraisement collection up by 12pc

KARACHI, May 5: The Collectorate of Appraisement, Karachi collected Rs113.773 billion during July-April period of the current fiscal year compared to Rs101.497 billion the same period last year, showing an increase of 12.11 per cent.

According to official figures released here on Friday, almost all categories of taxes recorded sizeable increase in collection over the corresponding period last year.

The collection of customs duty registered highest rise of 17.10 per cent at Rs53.846 billion as against Rs45.980 billion the same period last year. The collection of central excise duty (Federal Excise Duty) rose by 15.88 per cent at Rs573 million from Rs503 million last year.

The collectorate managed to collect 8.18 per cent more sales tax at import stage at Rs47.351 billion as against Rs43.769 billion in the corresponding period last year. Similarly, collection of income tax also stood higher by 6.84 per cent at Rs11.991 billion compared to Rs11.223 billion in the same period last year.

The collection of various taxes in April 2006 recorded 0.74 per cent increase at Rs10.657 billion compared to Rs10.578 billion the same month last year.

The break-up of collection of different taxes indicate that the CED rose by 38.18 per cent at Rs56.16 million from Rs40.04 million the same month last year. The customs duty recorded 4.33 per cent increase at Rs5.028 billion as against Rs4.798 billion the same period last year.
