NAWABSHAH, May 5: Armed man shot dead a young man, identified as Naik Mohammad Mari, 22, here on Thursday in village Meeran Mari, near Daur.
HOTTEST DAY: The Nawabshah district experienced the hottest day of the current season when mercury shot up to 47 degree centigrade here on Thursday.
The hot weather forced people to remain in houses.
PROTEST: The All Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA) took out a procession on Thursday against the administration of the Provincial Institute of Teachers Education (PITE) for suspending three employees.
The procession started from H.M.Khoja school and culminated at the local press club.
Led by Dawood Unnar, Luqman Bughio, Ashiq Jamali and Rahim Khoso, protesters demanded that the authorities should suspend the director of PITE, Mushtaq Shahani, and conduct an inquiry against his alleged corruption.
They also demanded cancellation of suspension orders of the three employees.
GUTTED: Four huts were gutted when a fire swept an area in the Gullan Lund village, near Nawabshah, on Thursday.
Houses of Ghulam Nabi, Sajawal, Bhutto Brohi and Hussain Bux were completely destroyed. Cause of the fire could not be ascertained.
Household items and wheat bags were reduced to ashes, however no loss of life was reported.
Villagers extinguished the fire with a little effort.
LIFE TERM: The district and sessions judge of Nawabshah on Thursday jailed two persons for life for possessing contraband.
Judge Ghulam Qadir Leghari punished Gulistan Khan and Tahir Khan Pathan for life and fined of Rs100,000 each.
The accused will have to serve three years more in jail if they fail to pay fine.
Excise police had arrested them with 23kg charas.
SECTION 144: Nawabshah District Nazim Ms Faryal Talpur has imposed section 144 CrPC and declared the premises of government Naya Madressa high school and government boys school Sakrand as restricted areas for general public due to annual examinations for autumn semester 2005 of the Allama Iqbal Open University.
The examinations would take place from May 8 to June 26.
