GHALANAI (Mohmand Agency), May 5: People from 25 settled villages have been forced to move to other areas because electricity supply there remains suspended for more than two months.

People of these villages, villages, including Pir Qalah, Maluke Korona, Saro Kalay, Qalah Shahbaig, Samnaat, Khwaja Wus Kore, had stopped paying their bills in protest against the government’s move to declare their villages as part of settled areas. They demanded to be declared part of the Mohmand tribal agency.

The locals had also urged the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) to restore power supply to their areas.

The power suspension also forced the local marble industry to close down, rendering workers in more than 150 marble units jobless or forcing them to seek employment in other areas.

The power suspension has also compounded the water supply problem. Local students were also finding it hard to prepare for their examinations.
