Jayasuriya fit for ODIs

COLOMBO, May 5: Sri Lanka opener Sanath Jayasuriya has declared himself fit for the one-day cricket series with England.

Jayasuriya, who turns 37 next month, retired from Test cricket after recent home series with Pakistan where he injured his hand while fielding in his last Test.

However, he is still available for next year's World Cup and one-day matches and has passed himself fit to join the tour in England next month.

Jayasuriya, a veteran of Sri Lanka's 1996 World Cup winning side, said:

“I consulted close friends before deciding and I think it's the right decision.

“Sri Lanka can win one-day series provided the team performs. The team is adjusting to the conditions and by June they should not have any problems.”—Agencies
