Gastroenteritis subsiding

FAISALABAD, May 24: The gastroenteritis outbreak has subsided to some extent here as only 90 fresh cases were reported from Ghulam Muhammadabad and its adjoining areas on Wednesday, with no fresh casualty.

Till the date, about 7,000 people suffering from the disease reportedly contacted various healthcare facilities in the city for treatment. However, the official figures in this regard stand at 5,000.

Meanwhile, VIP wards of the Allied and DHQ hospitals have been declared as general wards due to a large number of patients admitted there.

Doctors on duty at General Hospital, Ghulam Muhammadabad, Allied Hospital, DHQ Hospital and two emergency centres set up in local schools also reported a low turnout of patients.

Similarly, medical staff at various private hospitals and clinics also confirmed decrease in number of gastroenteritis cases.

Meanwhile, special teams constituted by the local administration, Punjab Housing and Physical Planning, Environment Agency and Health department visited the affected areas and collected samples of water supplied by Wasa to know the causes of gastroenteritis outbreak.

WASA MD: Despite City District Nazim’s orders regarding suspension of Wasa managing-director for his failure to ensure supply of clean water to citizens, the MD was still working on his post.

The Nazim, Rana Zahid Tauseef, had ordered suspension of five Wasa officials including its managing director for negligence, which resulted in 11 deaths due to consumption of contaminated water supplied by the agency.

KILL SISTER: A man allegedly gunned down his married sister in Ghausia Colony in the jurisdiction of Saddar police station here on Wednesday.

Police said Riaz Ahmad had doubt over the character of his sister, Gulzar, due to which he killed her and fled from the scene.

BODY FOUND: The body of a patwari of the irrigation department was found from his office here on Wednesday.

Patwari Latif, a resident of Gujrat, had been appointed in the irrigation offices for the last many years and used to sleep in his office.

The peon found the body of Latif lying in a pool of blood with his throat slit open when he opened the office in the morning.

Rail Bazaar police have sent the body to the Allied Hospital for autopsy.

No clue of the murderers has so far been traced.
