KARACHI: Sunni body defers protest

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, May 28: The Sunni Rehbar Council has decided to defer its future protests until June 16 on the assurance given by the government that investigation report of the Nishtar Park tragedy would be completed within a week or so and made public soon.

The SRC, which met here on Sunday with Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman in the chair, has also decided to stay away with the judicial tribunal set up by the government as its first day proceeding had endorsed their stand that the police had handled the case with extreme negligence and ignored all legal and technical requirements.

After the meeting, which deliberated on the post-strike situation, the SRC said that in view of the assurances given by the government, the council has decided to wait for the reports until June 16.

However, to keep the issue alive, protest rallies would continue even on Fridays.
