KARACHI, May 28: A superlative performance with both bat and the ball by Tayyab Mohammad enabled Aga Khan University Medical College (AKUMC) lift the 5th AKU All-Karachi Medical College cricket title on Sunday.
Tayyab inspired his team to a five-wicket victory over Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) in the final played at the AKU Ground.
The third-year student grabbed five for 23 with his off-spinners as DUHS struggled to 146 for nine after being asked to bat first by AKUMC skipper Rashid Badar.
DUHS could have folded up for a much lower score but for butter-fingered fielding from AKUMC. As many as seven simple catches were floored. The main beneficiary was Haris Leghari, who took advantage of two such lapses to hit 53.
Haris spiced his 52-ball knock with two sixes and four fours.
Tayyab, who struck six boundaries and one six, stroked a 44-ball 50 before opting to retire after sharing a partnership of Nadeem Aqeel. Nadeem had also retired earlier having contributed 37 off 35 balls with four fours and one six.
Earlier Rashid Badar had set the tone with a blazing 25 off just eight deliveries as he blasted four fours and one six.
Tayyab was adjudged Man-of-the-Final as well as Man-of-the-Tournament. Altogether he scored 138 runs and claimed seven wickets. His team-mates Rashid Badar (181 runs) and Shujaur Rahman (10 wickets) bagged the individual awards for batting and bowling, respectively.
Former Test paceman Jalaluddin graced the final as guest of honour.
Summarised scores:
