Duststorm hits parts of Sindh
HYDERABAD, June 2: A severe duststorm hit the city and several other districts of the province on Friday. In Hyderabad, the storm began at 5:15pm and continued till 5:40pm with a speed of 46 nautical miles in north- westerly direction.
Farmers expressed apprehensions about the storm affecting mangoes because picking of the fruit is in full swing in Hyderabad and its adjoining districts.
The picking begins in the last week of May and continues till June 15 without break.
The secretary-general of the Sindh Abadgar Board, Mr Mehmood Zaman Shah, said that the storm would have caused losses to mangoes.
He said that in the current year complaints already existed about low yield of mangoes.
He said that there had been reports that fast blowing winds in the last several days had damaged mangoes and unripe mangoes could not be picked on time.
SUKKUR: A heavy duststorm hit many areas of Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad and Ghotki districts on Friday.
Some of the areas also received light showers.
The storm started at about 5:00pm and was continuing with low intensity till the filing the report.
In Jacobabad, Ghotki, Thull and Kandhkot the duststorm was very intense due to which many trees were uprooted.
Power and telephone poles, hoardings and signboards were razed to the ground.
Some of the areas, including Kandhkot, Thull, Ghotki and Mirpur Mathelo received light showers due to which people were relieved of the scorching heat wave which persisted for the last many days.
Electricity in many areas was disrupted and was not restored till the filing the report.
DADU: A heavy windstorm on Friday disrupted electric and transport system in Dadu, Johi, Jhallo and Phulji towns.
