KARACHI, July 23: Founder member of Pakistan People’s Party Abdul Sattar Gabol died after suffering a severe heart attack here on Sunday morning. Gabol, 77, leaves behind his wife and a daughter, besides a large number of admirers to mourn his death.

Gabol will be buried in his family graveyard in Mewashah after the arrival of his daughter Salma Gabol and nephew MPA Nabil Gabol from London this afternoon.

According to family sources, Gabol collapsed at around 11am and was taken to National Institute of Cardio Vascular Diseases (NICVD) where he was pronounced dead.

The Gabols have always been active in the politics of Lyari. Sattar Gabol’s father Allah Bakhsh Gabol was elected member of the legislative assembly in 1937 and was twice elected mayor of Karachi, in 1953 and 1962.

Sattar Gabol rose to political eminence in the 70’s when he joined the PPP headed by late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.

He was twice elected MNA from the constituency of Lyari; and when the party came to power, he served as a minister, both at the centre and in the province.

The ouster of the PPP government and the execution of Z.A. Bhutto left a deep psychological impact on Sattar Gabol. Having developed serious differences with his senior party colleagues, he quit active politics.
