Haripur Tehsil Council okays Rs123.8m budget

By correspondent

HARIPUR, July 29: The Haripur Tehsil Council approved Rs123.807 million budget for fiscal 2006-7 here on Saturday.

The session was chaired by Syed Ahsan Ali Shah Mitha. The budget proposals were presented by Tehsil Nazim Iftekhar Ahmed Khan on July 26. Shazia Khatoon, Ishtiaq Ahmed, Syed Mehr Shah and Abdul Malik were among those who participated in the budget debate.

Opening debate on the budget, Raja Ehtesham opined that the Tehsil administration had unnecessarily enhanced budget for contingencies, motorcycle advances, house building, maintenance and repair, tour programs of members, women industrial homes, and purchase of new vehicles for TMA.

He also opposed allocation of funds for 13 ongoing uplift schemes and said the schemes were approved during the fiscal year 2004-5 but work on them could not be executed.

He suggested a cut of Rs7.1 million in the contingency and other non-developmental expenditures and allocation of these funds for developmental budget.

Out of the total projected income of Rs123.807m, the tehsil’s net income during 2006-7 has been estimated at Rs102.807m while Rs21m has been brought forward as opening balance from the previous year. The tehsil administration had a total income of Rs110.09 million during the last year.

A sum of Rs42.22 million has been earmarked for uplift schemes and Rs77.55 million for non-developmental expenditures.
