‘AJK varsity reconstruction to complete by December’

By Our Staff Correspondent

MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 4: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir University will shift classes to its Muzaffarabad and Rawlakot campuses as soon as the construction of temporary structures will be completed, its spokesman said on Friday.

In a statement, spokesman Zafar Iqbal said construction of pre-fabricated structures for classrooms and offices at the site of the university’s old campus here was likely to be completed in October. He said construction of temporary residences for teachers, hostels for students would be completed by the end of the current year.

He said construction of temporary structures on Rawlakot campus would also begin shortly and be completed by December.

Currently, he said, research work and classes were being held in the universities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad after completion of one semester.

The spokesman said funds for the university’s reconstruction had been made available and an international firm was being awarded designing contract.

The AJK government, he said, had also been approached for providing additional land in Muzaffarabad and Rawlakot.
