LAKKI MARWAT, Aug 4: Angry villagers blocked the Indus Highway near Malang Adda here on Friday to protest against power disconnection.

Officials of Pesco’s Serai Gambila sub-division had disconnected electricity supply to villages Walai, Bragai, Shagai, Khankhel Mandozai, Kotka Malagaan and Jalokhel on charges of power theft and non-payment of outstanding utility bills.

The protesters, some of whom were armed, reached the Malang Adda and blocked the highway. They burnt tyres and chanted slogans against Pesco officials.

District Police Officer Mohammad Yameen Khan and a heavy contingent of police and FC personnel reached the spot to avert any untoward incident. The police also called Pesco Serai Gambila assistant manager (operation) to hold talks with protesters and open the road.
