GUJRANWALA, Aug 4: A trader was shot dead by three dacoits while police arrested one of the accused in injured condition after an encounter in the Sabzi Mandi area on Friday.

Mukhtar of Bakhatewala was on his way home along with a relative, Liaquat, when three motorcyclists intercepted them. They snatched cash and a mobile phone from them, and opened fire on resistance. Mukhtar died on the spot while Liaquat sustained injuries.

The dacoits were fleeing when a police party chased them, but they opened fire which was retaliated as a result of which one of the bandits, later identified as Humayun Khan, was injured. He was arrested, while his two accomplices managed to escape.

The police are conducting raids for their arrest.

The police claimed that Humayun was a professional criminal, and his brother Younas was killed in an encounter with the police a few months ago.
