KARACHI: Many areas experience power failures

KARACHI, Aug 13: Electricity played hide-and-seek throughout the day on Sunday adding to the miseries of Karachiites a large number of whom had been confined to their houses by the showers that lashed the city in the afternoon and continued till late in the night with brief intervals.

Complaints of power breakdowns started pouring in at the newspaper offices as soon as it started raining. Most of the complainants said they had approached the newspaper offices after failing to reach a KESC official at any of its complaint centres despite repeated attempts four hours. They said that the KESC phone numbers were either busy or not being attended.

Most of the power consumers spoke of power failures three to four times during Saturday night and four to five times on Sunday.

Raafay Awan from Block 18, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, said power supply to his area was discontinued first at 3am Sunday for three hours and then at 10am for 11 hours, before it was restored at 9pm on Sunday.

Fahmeeda Bibi, speaking from Garden East, said that her area remained without power form 4pm to 9pm.

Anwer Ali, a resident of Tauheed Commercial Area, DHA, said that his area was without electricity from 3pm to 6pm on Sunday after experiencing a two-hour shut down during the previous night.

Mohammad Ali from Nazimabad No. 4 said that power supply to his area was discontinued at 4am for one hour, at 7am for two hours, and again at 4pm for three hours.

A resident of Block L, North Nazimabad, Mohammad Junaid, complained of two-hour power failure from 3pm to 5pm. Amir Ali of Federal B Area, Block 4, said that his area experienced power cut from 3pm to 8pm.

Danish Alam from Azizabad said that power supply to his locality remained suspended from 3am to 8am.

Shehla Fatah from Jamshed Road said that her area was without power from 9am to 2pm and again from 3pm till she called the newspaper at 8pm.

Aminur Rehman from Banaras Colony said his area and the neighbouring localities of Orangi Town experienced a two-hour breakdown occurring at 8pm. He said that the area had been getting disrupted power supply with each suspension spanning two to three hours every day.

Khursheed Jamshed from Block 4 A, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, said that his area remained without power first from 8am to 9am, then from 11am to noon and yet again from 5pm to 7pm.

Calling from Block 14, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Mohammad Bashir said that the power supply to his area was suspended three to four times during Saturday night.

Electricity was playing hide-and-seek since Sunday morning and still the situation had not changed at this hour of midnight, he added.

A resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Block 16 A, Shahzad Hassan, said that power supply to his area was suspended at 4am and restored at 7am. Again, it was suspended for two hours at 11am, he said.

Calling from Darul Islam Society, Korangi Crossing, Alam Khan said that his area experienced power failure at noon for two hours and at 5pm again for three hours.

Aziz Ahmad from Block 20, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, said that his area remained without power between 2am and 7am and again between 3pm and 5pm.
