KARACHI: PPP slams govt apathy, failure

By Our Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 23: MPA Shazia Marri of PPP on Wednesday berated the government for its alleged failure in providing relief to rain-affected people. Ms Marri, who is also the PPP parliamentary party’s spokesperson on finance, said that while the people braved appalling roads, overflowing drains and threat from electrocution, the authorities remained sadly absent.

She said the provincial and local governments, as well as cantonment boards, had miserably failed in providing a secure life to citizens. Their rash actions had added tremendously to the havoc played by the rains, she said.“Not only is the entire city dug up, but the digging has loosened the roots of trees which have ultimately started falling on people,” she elaborated.

In other parts of Sindh, said Ms Marri, torrential rains for days, flooding and strong winds had rendered countless people homeless. “The people have lost hope in a government that has turned a blind eye to their plight,” she added.

Shazia Marri scorned the ‘ridiculous’ explanations offered by the government for its alleged negligence, saying that the KPT underpass remained inaccessible and the chief minister attributed that to the engineer’s mistake. She demanded initiation of an immediate judicial enquiry against all those involved in the underpass affairs.
