LAHORE, Aug 24: The US Consulate Principal Officer Bryan D. Hunt said on Thursday no support to terrorism came from religious schools in Pakistan. “We hope that Pakistan’s leadership has a shared goal with Wafaqul Madaris (the body which takes care of religious schools’ affairs) to work jointly and coordinate on issues related to seminaries.

“We also hope that they have a shared goal of not letting any support come in favour of terrorism from the religious schools,” Mr Hunt said while talking to reporters after visiting a seminary — Jamia Manzoorul Islamia — in Cantonment.

He visited different sections of the religious schools and talked to its administration about the working, syllabus and the number of students.

Mr Hunt said the Pakistan government was working with the US in fight against terrorism, which was in the interest of both.

The religious school the principal officer visited belonged to the Sunni sect which had come to limelight after the last year’s London suicide bombing. There were reports that at least one of the alleged suicide bombers visited the seminary before executing the nefarious design — a charge the school administration denied. —Staff Reporter
