SUKKUR, Sept 2: Leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, has warned that countdown for the government has begun as people have launched a no-confidence campaign after the no-trust motion in the assembly.

Fazlur Rehman, who is also secretary-general of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA), was addressing local leaders and workers at Madressah Manzil Gah, Sukkur, on phone on Saturday.

He claimed that big public meetings and the strike of Sept 1 were signs of people’s no-confidence in rulers.

Terming presentation of the no-confidence motion a first step against the government, Maulana Fazl said the government had become confused and presented the Hudood Ordinance amendment bill in the National Assembly in a hurry.

He strongly condemned the murder of Nawab Akbar Bugti and his secret burial, terming the action inhuman and un-Islamic.

Maulana Fazl said the people’s no-confidence campaign would prove the last nail in the coffin of the government.

Slamming the ruling party, Maulana said it was neither the Muslim League nor Q-League, but the Musharraf League because it was following the policies of Gen Musharraf.

He described the policies of General Musharraf as dangerous for the integrity and solidarity of the country, adding that he was sacrificing country’s interests just to perpetuate his power.

Gen Musharraf had become a security risk for the country, said the opposition leader, adding that patriot Pakistanis should join hands to oust him.
