KARACHI, Sept 2: The Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, on Saturday declared the results of HSC Science (Pre-medical) Part II annual examination, 2006, with a pass percentage of 54.90, which is about 4 per cent higher than that of the last year.According to BIE statistics, of 15298 candidates appeared in examinations and 8347 were declared pass, out of which 401 secured A-1 grade. In comparison to last year’s figures, the number of A-graders has jumped from 586 to 1895 this year.

Top three positions were secured by four woman students. Madiha Kanwal of Karachi Intermediate College, Gulshan-i-Hadeed, clinched first position by securing 980 out of 1100 marks, while Shanza Waqar of St Joseph’s College for Women and Rabia Anwar of DA Degree College for Women shared second position by securing 963 marks each.

The third position went to Hiba Asad of ST Joseph’s College for Women, who secured 960 marks. Madiha and Hiba belonged to the last batch of students who were admitted to the college when it was under government control.

There was a considerable gap between the performances shown by women and male students having passed the examinations. Pass percentage of woman candidates was 59.41 while in the case of male candidates it remained 40.78 per cent.

In all, 11570 women and 3728 men appeared in examinations this year. As many as 336 women and 65 males were placed in A-1 grade, while another 1570 women and 325 males got A grade.

Another 2407 candidates passed in B grade, while 2390 in C grade, 1213 in D grade, 26 in E grade. Results of 93 candidates were withheld for want of correct information and of another 15 on the ground of unfair means.—Staff Reporter
