CHITRAL, Sept 7: The provincial TB control programme on Thursday held a workshop for journalists at a local hotel in connection with the ongoing TB awareness week.
Programme manager Dr Abdul Ghafoor, District TB Control Officer Dr Noorul Islam, representatives of WHO Dr Maqsood Ali Khan and Shandana Khisro read out their papers. The speeches were followed by group discussions with a view to achieving greater degree of awareness in backward and isolated Chitral district.
The participants were told that the TB control programme of Chitral had earned ‘best performance award’ from the provincial government for excellent service.
The speakers said TB should be considered a social problem. They said TB could be fought against only with active support of all the strata of the society. No effort, they said, could bear fruit without mass support.
They said during the ongoing TB awareness week, seminars and workshops would be held for representatives of district governments, school and college teachers, religious leaders, NGOs and others who could influence public opinion.
