LAHORE, Sept 7: The Lahore Race Club (LRC) has announced an ambitious schedule for the Winter Meetings which began at the racecourse under floodlights on Tuesday. The eight month-long programme spreading over 34 meetings studded with one or more cup events, depending upon the entries of horses and available resources, will be held on Sundays.

The 54-page prospectus issued by the LRC for press and public clearly elaborates all events, eligibility of runners with laid down terms and conditions for classic, semi-classic as well as handicap races of all age groups and classes.

In all, 23 races have been earmarked for the horses in class I, II and III during the season.

There will be at least half-a-dozen cup events named after September war heroes on the 10th to pay tributes to the valiant fighters who sacrificed their lives in defence of motherland.

The star attraction of the meetings is the Pakistan Derby 2007 to be held on March 4 and the Jinnah Cup.

The other important cup events are: Mohammad Tughlaq Cup (Sept 24), Pakistan Oaks (Nov 19), Zaheeruddin Mohammad Babar Cup, Tariq Bin Zayad Cup (Nov 19), Khalid bin Waleed Cup (Nov 25), Pakistan St Leger 2006 (Dec 3), Nooruddin Mohammad Jahangir Cup (Dec 17), Jinnah Cup, Christmas Cup (Dec 24), Epsom Cup (Jan 14), Qutubuddin Aibak Cup (Dec 24), Anarkali Cup (Feb 4), Derby Trials (Feb 18), Ghazali Cup (Feb 25), National Breeders Cup, Stewards Cup, LRC Cup (March 4), Mohyuddin Muhammad Aurangzeb Alamgir Cup (March 11), Eclipse Stakes Of Pakistan (March 18),

The meetings will conclude with the staging of May Day Cup and Farewell Cup on April 29.
