ISLAMABAD, Sep 13: Acting President Mohammedmian Soomro on Wednesday said that Pakistan being an agrarian country had a big market for tractors with competitive prices, durability and efficiency.

He was talking to Polish Ambassador in Pakistan Bogdan Marczewshiat who called on him here at his residence.

Mr Soomro invited Poland to invest in Pakistan which offered lucrative returns.

The acting president observed that there was a wide scope for enhancing Pakistan-Polish cooperation in manufacturing of tractors and other agriculture implements to their mutual advantage.

He said the country was fast switching over to mechanised farming which had advantages over the traditional modes of agriculture.

As such efficient tractors with reasonable prices can make a lot of difference in this regard. These would be of tremendous help to the farmers, he added.

Mr Soomro said Poland had a reputation of a leading manufacturer of tractors which were known for their sturdiness and Pakistan could benefit a lot from Polish experience in this area.

The acting president said agriculture continued to be the main stay of the economy and employer of major work force. “With the opening of the economy, there are immense possibilities in this field as Pakistan is a country of more than 150-million people.”

Mr Soomro said the government believed in providing a level-playing field to all investors local as well as foreign.

The Polish ambassador lauded the achievements made by Pakistan in the economic field and said that he had recently visited some farms near Lahore and Okara and he was very impressed by the mechanised farming under taken by the owners of these farms.

He said the two countries should step up efforts for consolidating their trade and business relations.

Polish firm Ursus is already under taking joint ventures with the World Group in Pakistan.
