KARACHI: More teams qualify for city final: Spelling Bee

KARACHI, Sept 13: Six more teams came out successful on Wednesday to compete in the Karachi city finals of the ongoing third “Dawn in Education-National Spelling Bee” competitions, which will be held on Sept 18.

The pronouncers of the third day competition on Wednesday were Sue Gilbert and Ruth Bavington.

The events are being organized, in collaboration with the British Council, said a coordinator for the competition, adding final round of the national competition will be held at Islamabad, where teams from Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore would take part.

Judges of the competitions on Wednesday were Samina Khan, Hira Sajjad, Shamez Mukhi, Leon Fernandes and Sunil Iqbal. After the third day of competition, the number of school teams which qualified for the Karachi city finals reached a tally of 18, said the coordinator.

The following are the winning teams of Wednesday: 9 to 11 age group: Rabail Kumar Mandhan, Ehsanullah Khan and Mohammad Hashir of St Paul’s English High School (Cambridge system) and Sheharoz Ahmed Shaikh, Yasir Iqbal and Fatima Tariq Haroon of The Educational Centre.

12 to14 age group: Asra Ahmad, Hareem Jillani and Ali Bin Imran of Kids University and Jamila Asghar Ali, Samina Fakhruddin and Maria Moiz Ali of Saifiyah Girls School.

15-17 age group: Salman Rafiq, Marium Khanum and Parvasha Nafees of Nasra Secondary School (Afternoon) and Z Ambrose, Mohammad Huzeefa and Daniyal Haider Sangi of St Paul’s English High School.
