HYDERABAD: Building department seals three projects, demolishes one

HYDERABAD, Sept 13: The Hyderabad building control department has sealed Qadir Complex on Risala Road, Nishat Tower on Doman Wah Road and Al-Noor Heights in Khokhar Mohalla.
According to the department, the parking areas of these projects were converted into shops or were being used for other unauthorised purposes. The department also demolished the construction of another project, Aisha Centre ward-F, that was raised without permission.
District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil directed the building control department to initiate immediate action against the construction of illegal projects.
Meanwhile, the district nazim has said that two big drains had been constructed to drain out accumulated rainwater from Latifabad Unit No.2.
Talking to people during his visit in various rain-affected areas of Latifabad, he said the pumping capacity through the installation of additional machines had been doubled and 15 tankers had been requisitioned from Karachi to drain out the accumulated water.
He said that usually the annual rainfall in Hyderabad was recorded at less than two inches, but 10 inches of rain was recorded on Thursday and Friday.
The situation, he said, had aggravated because six big pumps out of the eight had been submerged under 5-10 feet of water, which had collapsed the drainage system.
He, however, said the district government had purchased more pumps and doubled and even tripled the capacity of the pumping stations.
He said Unit No.2 was the worse affected as it was in the low lying area. He said, in order to provide relief to the people of Unit no.2, two big drains had been excavated.
He said the district government was working on two priorities: to drain out rain water from Latifabad, Qasimabad and city talukas and to provide three meals a day to 100,000 affected people as well as medical aid.
He acknowledged the help and cooperation of the Pakistan army and said the district government had provided medicines worth Rs2 million at the relief camps.
SHOW-CAUSE: Sindh Health Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani has issued show-cause notices to 26 employees of Bhittai Hospital Latifabad and four of the Qasimabad Hospital for remaining absent from duty during the recent heavy rains.
