ISLAMABAD Sept 20: Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed has emphasised the need for adopting political ways and means to fight terrorism.
Use of force was never effective in resolving political problems, he said, while speaking at a dinner hosted by him for the visiting Japanese Communist Party delegation led by Kazuo Shii, chairman, Executive Committee of Japanese Communist Party.
Mr Sayed said the international organisations and the world bodies should shun double standards on global issues, particularly when it comes to Muslim world.
He said terrorism was, no doubt a threat to global peace and security, which recognised no borders, however, there was a dire need to address its root causes.
Terrorism stems from political injustice and deprivation, poverty, denial of rights, lingering of disputes and the feeling of injustice.
Mr Sayed said Pakistan and Japan enjoyed close cordial relations and the visits and interaction of politicians and parliamentarians of the two countries would further enrich the bilateral relations and open new vistas of cooperation and understanding between the two countries.
Issues like Palestine and Kashmir should be resolved, and the peoples of these areas should be given their rights, he said, adding that the world should play its role in this regard.
Pakistan’s nuclear programme, he said, was aimed at maintaining balance of power and checking regional hegemony. The country is working to promote peace and stability in the region.
He said China had been playing an important role in promoting peace and development in the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Communist Party of Japan Chairman Mr. Kazuo Shii appreciated Pakistan’s role in maintaining regional stability and enhancing economic cooperation in the region.
