LAHORE, Sept 27: MMA President Qazi Husain on Wednesday questioned Gen Musharraf’s right to write a book, saying the president and the army chief knew many state secrets which should not be disclosed at any cost.

Answering reporters’ questions at the residence of Nawabzada Mansoor Khan, where the third anniversary of the late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan was observed, Qazi alleged that in his book Gen Musharraf had made a departure from the country’s principled stand on the issue of Kashmir.

He said the UN resolutions gave the Kashmiris right to self-determination, which by implication meant that Kashmir was not an integral part of India, as claimed by New Delhi. He said the president had bartered the sacrifices of Kashmiri people, which the nation would not tolerate.

The MMA chief was equally critical of the way Gen Musharraf had held Dr AQ Khan responsible for nuclear proliferation.

“It’s like becoming approver against the nuclear scientist,” Qazi said, analysing implications of Musharraf’s utterances.

He said Dr Khan had made Pakistan a nuclear state and it was because of this capability that India could not dare attack this country. He said generals who had constructed bungalows worth millions of rupees near the borders, could not be expected to fight a war against India.

Qazi said the religious alliance was no obstacle to a grand opposition alliance. “We are prepared to go ahead (and form an alliance) without going into technicalities.”

In his opinion all parties should get united to exclude the army from politics. He said he wished such an alliance was formed before Eid.

He said people should come out to bring about a change in the country.

PPP leaders Jehangir Badr, Qasim Zia, Sajjad Bukhari, Naveed Chaudhry, Munir Ahmad Khan, Khalid Kharal, Azizur Rehman Chan, PML-N leaders Tehmina Daultana, Zaeem Qadri, MMA’s Syed Munawwar Hasan, Liaquat Baloch, Amirul Azeem, ARD leaders Mansoor Khan, Nawaz Gondal, Manzoor Gilani, Saifullah Saif and many others were also present. —Staff Reporter
