TOBA TEK SINGH, Sept 29: The district council through a unanimous resolution urged the federal government on Friday not to change the route of M-4 Motorway project.

Moved by an opposition member Akbal Ali Warraich, the resolution stated that on the pressure of a federal minister from Jhang the motorway route was being changed through flood-prone areas along Chenab river and sand heaps of Jhang and Bhakkar.

It added that the already decided route of Toba and Multan would benefit motorists from Gojra, Toba, Shorkot, Sahiwal, Khanewal, Okara, Vehari and Mailsi areas.

The members said in their speeches that millions of rupees had already been spent on survey and acquisition of land which would go waste in case of route change.

Members protested non-implementation of house resolutions by officials of various government departments. Treasury member Mulazim Abbas Gadhi staged walk out as a protest along with another group member Shabbir Ahmad over this situation. Opposition members also walked out to lend them support.

A resolution moved by another member against Rs100 ultrasound fee charged by the Gojra tehsil headquarters hospital was also passed.

The resolution also demanded immediate appointment of an eye specialist in the hospital.

Opposition members criticised district nazim Ch Abdul Sattar and naib nazim Ch Sultan Ahmad and again walked out from the house.

STRIKE: Fruit and vegetable traders and vendors observed a strike on Friday against the `excesses’ of the market committee secretary and his staff.

They also staged a demonstration in Sadar Bazaar and later called DCO Nawazish Ali and district nazim Abdul Sattar to convey their anger.
