LAHORE, Oct 2: Justice Mian Najamuz Zaman of the Lahore High Court on Monday declined to hear a petition challenging the detention of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed and referred it to the LHC chief justice to place it before any other bench.
The judge observed that he was chairman of a review board which reviews detention cases.
The petition, filed by Mamoona Saeed, wife of the detenu through her counsel Nazir Ahmad Ghazi, submitted that her husband was a social worker, a religious scholar, and a law-abiding citizen as well. She submitted that neither there was any ground nor any reason was given for the detention.
She submitted that a copy of the detention order was not being provided to her and prayed the court to declare the detention of her husband illegal.
Sonia Naz case: Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Yar Walana here on Monday recorded statement of CIA DIG Abid Qadri in the Sonia Naz case against suspended SP Khalid Abdullah and inspector Jamshed Chisti and adjourned the hearing till Oct 14.
Accused Khalid Abdullah and Jamshed Iqbal Chisti who are on bail were present in the court.
According to the prosecution, both the accused had abducted Sonia Naz on May 3, 2005, from her house in Johar Town and later raped her. They were arrested on Oct 19 after Chief Justice of Pakistan directed the Lahore DPO as well as the IGP to arrest the accused officers.—APP
