KARACHI, Oct 5: Shipping activity was fairly brisk at the port where five ships scheduled to load and offload containers, coal, chemicals, and crude oil were arranged berthing at various terminals during the last 24 hours, said a PQA press release here on Thursday.

Berth occupancy was managed on higher side at 80 per cent on Wednesday as against 70 per cent the previous day where a total of eight ships -- CMA CGM Sambhar, CV San Clement, Chitral, Tassels, Sea Master, Ginga Hawk, Caravos Trader and Great Well -- are currently occupying berths to load and offload containers, cement, crude oil, sugar, chemicals, seeds and coke.

A cargo volume of 80,748 tons comprising 64,447 tons import cargo and 16,301 tons export cargo inclusive of containerised cargo carried in 1,888 containers (TEUs) was handled.

Container ship San Clement sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while CMA CGM Sambhar and CV ACX Jasmine are expected to sail on Thursday.
