KARACHI, Oct 5: The Sindh High Court on Thursday disposed of two petitions by convicted activists of Harkatul Mujahideen Al Alami for details of pending cases against them as jail authorities produced the record before the court.
Kamran alias Atif and Sohail Akhtar alias Mustufa who were convicted by anti terrorism courts in Karachi sought record of their pending cases before trial court. Their counsel Mushtaq Ahmed contended that his clients were not being produced before trial court and they were not aware that how many cases were pending against them.
DIG prison Col Tariq Shah Khan filed comments before the court, stating that Kamran alias Atif was sentenced to death in murder case by ATC and now one case under section 13-D was pending before judicial magistrate south Karachi. He stated as home department issued notification for jail trial of convict he will be produced before trial court as and when the court issued his production order.
He said Sohail Akhtar was sentenced to life imprisonment by ATC in Macedonia consulate killing and blast case and now 2 cases were pending against them and the home department also issued notification regarding his jail trial.
SHC's division bench comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Ali Sain Dino Metlo after perusal of comments filed by jail authorities disposed of the petition as the same served it purpose.
Appeal dismissed: The Sindh High Court dismissed an appeal of a man against his conviction in a murder case, but ordered his release as he had already undergone his substantive punishment.
Farooq Jat was sentenced to life imprisonment by the additional district and session court Sanghar for murdering his uncle Abdul Haseeb on March 7, 1996, in the limits of Mangli police station Sanghar.
His appeal against conviction was heard by SHC's single bench, comprising Justice Mohammad Moosa K Laghari. The court after hearing the case dismissed the appeal but condoned his remaining sentence as convict had undergone his substantive punishment.
appeal allowed: A division bench of High Court of Sindh, comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Maqbool Baqar, on Thursday admitted an appeal filed by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan against Badar Sons Agencies.
A high court appeal was moved by TCP on against the verdict announced on May 23 by a single bench in a civil suit filed by the TCP against Badar Sons.
The appellant submitted that the Badar Sons were obliged to render true and accurate account of the stock of rice and gunny bags entrusted to it, who failed to perform, which, were also the contractual obligations.—APP/PPI
