KARACHI: Lyariites demand basic amenities

KARACHI, Oct 5: The Young Lyari Welfare Center urged the authorities to direct the agencies concerned to take measures for providing basic facilities in Lyari.

YLWC General Secretary Zulfiqar Ali said that the problem of water shortage had been persisting in the locality for over a decade particularly in Darayabad (UC-2) and Nauabad (U-3), but no serious efforts had been made to supply the basic facility of life to the Lyariites.

“People can be seen wandering in search of water even during night and in case water is supplied through pipelines, it is mixed with sewage spreading epidemic in locals”, he added. He held the KWSB officials responsible for producing artificial water crisis in Lyari Town and for showing negligence.

Main artery of Lyari, Shah Bhitai Road is closed for vehicular traffic due to its shabby condition which not only disturbed the flow of vehicular traffic but also caused many accidents.

Filth and dirt can be seen in every street of the locality especially in Darayabad and Nauabad. Sewage-mixed water has inundated the roads and streets as all the old lines are choked.—PPI
