KARACHI, Oct 11: Shipping activity remained brisk at the port where four ships carrying containers, edible oil and chemicals took berths at various terminals during the last 24 hours, said a PQA press release here on Wednesday.

A total of eight ships -- Xiang Wan, CSAV Ningbo, Aqua Star, Sargodha, Intergrity-I, Warbah, Anette Kosan and DD Master -- are currently occupying berths to load and offload containers, cement, rice, edible oil, diesel oil, chemicals and sugar.

Cargo handling registered an upward trend at the port where a cargo volume of 82,987 tons comprising 56,676 tons imports and 26,311 tons exports inclusive of containerised cargo carried in 1,975 containers (TEUs) was handled during the report period.

Four ships, Caravos Trader, Xiang Wan, Warbah and Anette Kosan, sailed out, while Advantage and Southern Imperial are currently at outer anchorage.

Container ship CSAV Ningbo was expected to sail on Wednesday, while Bavaria Express and Southern Imperial were expected to take berths on same day. Two ships, Al-Maqwa and Pacific Jade, with diesel oil and edible oil were due to arrive on Wednesday, while KIA Waleed and Mantania, with containers and diesel oil, are due to arrive on Thursday.
