KARACHI, Oct 11: The University of Karachi has decided to discontinue the holding of supplementary examinations for the degree class students.
This was stated by the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Karachi University, Dr Akhlaq Ahmed, on Wednesday. He said that the supplementary examinations of BA (Pass) and BCom would no more take place in future.
Prof Akhlaq said that this had also been done to facilitate the regular examinations of Karachi University and the affiliated colleges in a smooth manner. He pointed out that holding of the supplementary exams remained suspended for about a decade and resumed a couple of years ago.
The pro vice-chancellor also said that the number of students in the affiliated colleges had increased rapidly over the years. As such the university has to conduct the examination of about 100,000 students. In view of all this, it was decided that the holding of supplementary examinations should be discontinued, Prof Akhlaq stated.
Meanwhile, the Karachi University Acting Controller Examinations announced that BA, BSc and BCom annual exams 2006 for regular students and external candidates would commence by Dec 5.
A KU notification issued here stated that following decision of varsity’s competent authorities, it was decided to make some male colleges as examination centres for male candidates. It directed the principals of all affiliated colleges to dispatch list of those regular and retired teachers, who wanted to take part in conducting the exams.
ADMISSIONS: The computer science department admissions in both morning and evening programmes for the next session would start from Oct 27.
According to a university notification, admission forms for the PGD and MCS programmes could be obtained from UBL, campus branch from Oct 27 to Oct 31. The admission forms for BS (CS) / BS (SE) could be obtained from Nov 1 to 7 during working hours. It further said that duly filled forms along with all necessary documents (mentioned in the prospectus) could also be submitted in the department of computer science on the same dates.
The departmental admission test for PGD would be held on Nov 13; for MCS on Nov 14; and for BS (CS)/ BS (SE) on Nov 15. Tests for these programmes would be conducted at the department of computer science at 3pm. Classes would start from Jan 6.
CONFERENCE: The 14th Sociological Conference of the Pakistan Sociological Association is scheduled to be held on Dec 13 and 14 at the Department of Sociology, Criminology and Population Sciences of Karachi University. The theme of the conference will be ‘Crime in Pakistan, Causes and Prevention’.
Prof (Dr) Fateh Muhammad Burfat will be the convener and Mrs Kausar Parveen will be the secretary of the conference.
