TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 11: The Punjab election authority announced on Wednesday that the by-election on a vacant seat for Toba tehsil naib nazim would be held on Friday (tomorrow).

The Supreme Court had declared the elections of Union Council No 48 (Pirmahal) invalid as nomination papers of Sayeen Muhammad Khalid for the nazim seat and naib nazim Asif Zaheer were rejected by the Lahore High Court. Sayeen Khalid and Asif Zaheer had filed appeals before the Supreme Court against the LHC decision, but the apex court rejected their appeals last month.

Since Asif Zaheer was then elected as tehsil naib nazim, his seat fell vacant after the Supreme Court decision. — Correspondent
