KARACHI, Nov 1: Sindh Minister for Culture, Tourism and Social Welfare Rauf Siddiqui on Wednesday said that Sindh had strong cultural values and heritage and the government was trying to promote and strengthen it.

He stated this while chairing a meeting of the steering committee at the office of provincial ombudsman. Yousuf Jamal, Saher Ansari, Shaukat Hussain Soomro, Salim Memon, Ghulam Rabbani Agro, Shamsheerul Haidery, Ashfaq Hussain Memon, Abdul Qadir Mangi and others attended the meeting.

He said that his department was organising a convention on “Promotion of Sindh literature and Cultural Writers Convention” on Nov 11 in which notable personalities of Urdu and Sindhi literature would participate.

Rauf Siddiqui said that the steering committee would soon nominate its conveyer in all major towns of the province so that cultural institutions of these cities could contact with committee. He said that local poets would be invited in all mushairas.

He said that his department would also resolve all the issues and problems faced by writers and poets of the province. He expressed hope that new generation could be attracted toward literature through the efforts of government.

Prof Sehar Ansari, Agha Juveri, Prof Salim Memon and Yousuf Jamal also spoke. —PPI
