KARACHI, Nov 1: Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has said that agents of the underworld are involved in the rising graph of street crime in the city, and strongly warned them to leave Karachi and Pakistan forthwith or face people’s wrath.
Addressing the MQM’s general workers meeting at Lal Qila Ground in Azizabad late on Tuesday night, Mr Hussain expressed concern at the twin menace of street crime and dengue fever, and impressed upon the workers to help combat the same.
He asked the party’s legislators, local government and councillors to form teams under sector and unit in-charges to help the police and Rangers in catching criminals.
“If the police and security agencies cooperate with you, well and good, otherwise the party knows how to deal with criminals,” he said. He warned criminals to leave the city in their own interest and let people live in peace.
Altaf Hussain also asked nazims, naib nazims and councillors from the party to pay proper attention to the problems being faced by people of their areas.
The town and union councils should work in close coordination with the party’s ranks and file to achieve better results, he said, adding that those failing to follow party’s directives should quit it or be ready to be forced out.
The MQM chief made it clear that he was not interested in mere count of seats in assemblies or councils, rather he had a firm faith in service to the masses on which he would never compromise. In this context, he paid glowing tributes to City Nazim Mustafa Kamal and Naib Nazim Nasreen Jalil, and said they were doing a wonderful job.
Mr Hussain pointed out that the dengue haemorrhagic fever had gripped Karachi and was spreading in other parts of the country. He asked MQM legislators and elected local government members to form committees and organise corner meetings to educate people about preventive and curative measures.
He also told the party workers and general public to donate blood at the MQM’s Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation headquarter to ensure prompt treatment to the patients with haemorrhagic fever.The MQM chief warned party men, especially those holding positions in the government, to desist from promoting nepotism within the party or government, as well as in the matters relating to employment, promotion, posting etc.
“Each and every case be considered on a merit basis. This has been and will remain the MQM’s culture,” he declared.
He said that the day would definitely come when the 98 per cent poor population of the country would draw together under the MQM umbrella and the party will form an exemplary government.
