KARACHI, Nov 18: Three-year-old chestnut filly Eswarah who has made her mark with three successive triumphs is poised to stretch her winning run should she land the one mile feature event in the Gymkhana race meeting at Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The race was supposed to be contested for Aga Khan Gold Cup marking its revival after many years, but the KRC was compelled to cancel it at the eleventh hour after they received a letter from Ismaili jamat, Ali Akbar Shah Rashdi, deputy secretary KRC, told Dawn Saturday night.

The decision pertaining to revive the Aga Khan Gold Cup was taken by KRC without consulting the concerned quarters and subsequently it was published in the racing guide.

However, in a sharp reaction they were refrained from going ahead by Abdeen Hussain of His Highness Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Pakistan.

An annual feature in yesteryears, The Aga Khan Gold Cup was last held way back in 1977.

Eswarah is likely to be opposed by three-year-old bay colt The Arab and chestnut colt Reyan King in quest to make it four on trot.

The first race begins at 11.30am.

Two-year-old bay colt Cash Flow who made an impressive debut in the last outing with M. Nasir astride, is fancied to come up with shining performance by claiming the Golden Sliper Cup.

Nine horses are short listed after scratching barring last minute withdrawl. He should be chased by fillies Pha Pha Kutni and Rebecca for the places.

Makina, a four-year-old bay filly, who was beaten by The King Of Arab in Eid Milan Cup should make amends by grabbing the concluding event. It has a small field of seven contestants.

Her likely challengers are Chaleswan Chur and Dragon Heart.

Two horses - four-year-old bay colt Paidagir, and filly Black Girl, are in contention for honours in the class V div 1 & 11 event. Both have emerged victorious in their last run. However, we prefer the former on his current form.

Filly Maid’s Causeway and bay colt Laat Sahib are tipped to dominate the sixth race which has a field of 13 runners.

With three wins under her belt, Maid’s Causeway is our fancy and should overcome rest of the opponent’s. The two should be followed by Cant Catch Me.

If tried by connection, filly Miss Milee should atone to her dismal run by claiming the fifth race.

Canon Ball and Tom Cruise enjoy an edge to claim the opening two races while filly Patricia should oblige punters in the third race.

Following is the field and our selection.
