BADIN, Jan 15: University of Sindh Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui formally opened the Sindh University Laar College Badin in an inauguration ceremony here on Monday.

The university has set up its campus named Sindh University Laar College in a portion of the building of Government Islamia Degree College, which will initially offer degrees in Bachelor in Business Administration, Bachelor in Commerce and Bachelor in Computer Science.

Mr. Siddiqui said that the Laar campus was a realisation of people’s dreams whose land had produced the great scholar and proponent of women’s rights Maulana Ahmed Mallah.

He said that the university had taken the first step through this college towards a great journey and hopefully the institution would develop into a full-fledged university over due course of time.

The Laar campus had brought the facility of higher education to people’s doorsteps, he said and urged the students and teachers to maintain quality of education.

The VC announced that students of Laar College would avail the same facilities of scholarships and free-ship the university offered to its regular students.

Earlier, the vice chancellor formally inaugurated Sindh University Laar College and visited its class rooms, laboratories and handed over appointment orders to Ms. Naila Tabassum, Mumtaz Begum, Mohammad Nawaz and Khalil.

Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration Dean Dr. Anwar Ali Shah said that senior faculty members would pay visits to schools to create awareness among students about the importance of commerce and business administration.

Faculty of Natural Sciences Dean Dr. Yar Mohammad Khuhawar said that in the first phase market-oriented subjects had been introduced in the college.

Sindh University Registrar Mohammad Saleh Rajar, Ms. Akhtar Jabeen Siddiqui, patron of Anjuman-i-Behbood Khawatin Jamshoro, Faculty of Social Sciences Dean Dr. Rafia Ahmed Shaikh, Marui Hostel Provost Dr. Qamar Jehan Mirza, Dr. Lutfullah Mangi, Sindh Development Study Centre Director Dr. Abida Tahrani, Institute of Women Development Studies Director Dr. Parveen Shah and Islamia Degree College Principal Prof. Abdullah Mallah were present in the inauguration ceremony.
