PESHAWAR, Jan 15: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that the international community should not shirk its responsibilities regarding restoration of peace at the global level, adding that use of force will only result in stoking up hatred.

He made these observations while talking to the French and Finnish Ambassadors to Pakistan — Regis de Belenet and Irmell Mustonen — who met the chief minister separately in the Frontier House here on Monday.

Mr Durrani pointed out that only Muslims were getting affected from violence in Palestine, Kashmir and Afghanistan, adding that the international community should play its role to bring normalcy and peace to the said territories.

He said restoring peace to the world had become a challenge and the whole world wanted to help do so. However, for this to be achieved the actual reasons behind the violence must be addressed.

Pakistan and India had fought four wars for Kashmir. War continues in Palestine, while the people of Afghanistan are confronting day-to-day violence for the last 35 years.

The chief minister said that after 9/11 the Taliban were blamed for it and a war was waged against them. The fire that was started in Afghanistan then was now engulfing the whole world.

He said that instead of launching talks with Taliban, they were dealt with with might. Had dialogue been given a chance in 2001, the global situation would be different today.—PPI
