Stamps commemorate Ashes triumph

MELBOURNE, Jan 16: Australian cricket fans who mail letters to England will be salivating at the prospect: special-issue Ashes stamps commemorating Australia's 5-0 series sweep over the Old Enemy.

The two stamps – a 50-cent domestic stamp and a $1.85 international stamp – portray the Australian cricket team's series win over England in Perth.

Australia clinched the Ashes with its third straight win in Perth, then won the last two Tests in Melbourne and Sydney.

The domestic stamp released on Tuesday features Shane Warne jumping for joy and being hugged by team-mates Stuart Clark, Michael Hussey, Andrew Symonds and Brett Lee after capturing the decisive wicket of Monty Panesar on the fifth day of the third Test.

The international stamp shows a close-up image of several Australian team members, including captain Ricky Ponting, Adam Gilchrist, Brett Lee, Matthew Hayden and Shane Warne celebrating with the replica Ashes urn.—AP
