KARACHI, Jan 23: The Mutahida Majlis-i-Amal on Tuesday condemning the registration of a case against political leaders and workers who were protesting against inflation has demanded that false case be withdrawn.

The FIR (No.26/07) was lodged at Preedy police station under Section 3/4 of the Loudspeaker Act and Section 139/141 of the Police Act 2002 against Secretary-General of the Jamaat-i-Islami Munawwar Hassan, MPAs Nasrullah Shaji, Hameedullah Advocate, Younus Barai, Mohammad Hussain, Nafees Ahmed, Siddique Rathor, Basharat Mirza, Nihal Hashmi and Shabbir Abu Talib and over 150 activists and supporters, for violating the Loudspeaker Act and blocking the road facing the Empress Market for staging a sit-in on Sunday. None of them, however, has been arrested.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, MMA leaders Abdul Ghaffar Umer, Nasrullah Aziz and others said the government and its coalition partners had not been able to resolve the issues being faced by people who were exposed to face unemployment, inflation and extortion.

Meanwhile, MMA Sindh chief Asadullah Bhutto condemning the Sindh government for not protection the rights of the Sindh in connection with the sale of islands said the rulers were more interested in protecting their government rather than protecting the rights of people.

He said the government was highlighting the mix marathon and basant on one hand and using the controversial issues like Kalabagh dam on the other to divert the public attention from the real issues like army operation in Balochistan, FATA and the president in uniform.

Mr Bhutto also condemned the US bombing in Waziristan that killed many FC personnel. He said though the country was being termed a frontline state in the US’s war against terrorism, it was continuously being bombed leading to the killing of its civilians and armed forces personnel.
