KARACHI, Jan 23: Veteran Ghazal singer Mehdi Hassan was admitted to a local hospital on Monday, said a family source on Tuesday.

A son of the legendary singer, Arif Mehdi, told Dawn that Khan sahib, who had suffered a paralytic stroke in 2005, suffered a chest infection a week or so back in Lahore, following which he was shifted to Karachi.

He said Dr Sonawala, his physician at the Aga Khan University Hospital, had advised him hospitalisation to conduct different tests and examine his condition.

“Apart from the latest chest infection, my father has complaints of foot swelling and developed bedsore recently,” Mr Arif added, saying that in entire the singer is in a stable health and will likely be discharged from the hospital within three to four days.
