Eagles soar to victory over Rams

KARACHI, Feb 26: Lahore Eagles soared to a comprehensive 79-run victory over Rawalpindi Rams in the ABN-Amro One-day Gold League Cup at the NBP Sports Complex here on Monday.

The Rams never threatened a tough target of 271 after losing half their side for 101 and were eventually bowled out for 191 in the 41st over.

Former Test batsmen Mohammad Wasim (41 off 43 balls, seven fours) and Naveed Qureshi (an unbeaten 64 off 73 balls, four fours and two sixes) offered some fight but the others went cheaply.

Ex-international pacer Junaid Zia bowled impressively to claim three for 36 in his 10-over stint.

Earlier, the Eagles’ total of 270 for nine was based around good contributions from Aamir Sajjad (61 off 82 balls, five fours), Arsalan Mir (60 off 42 balls, five fours and two sixes), Kamran Sajid (44 off 58 balls, two fours) and Nasir Jamshed (36 off 41 balls, three fours).

Skipper Imran Farhat, the Pakistan opener, disappointed as he scored just 16.
