KARACHI: Amar Jaleel gets KPC life membership

KARACHI, Feb 27: The Karachi Press Club will confer its life membership to eminent short storywriter of Sindhi Amar Jaleel at the KPC terrace today at 5pm.

The decision to offer life membership to the most revered storyteller of Sindh was taken by the KPC’s governing body at its recent meeting to honour him for his outstanding contribution to the world of fiction.

The KPC’s literary committee will hold the function which various noted writers and intellectuals are expected to attend.

Mr Jaleel, also a columnist of Dawn, has written hundreds of short stories in Sindhi; he has also written one novel in Sindhi titled Naith Gongey Ghalahyo (Thus Dumb Spoke).

He has various collections of short stories including: Sindhu Muhinje Saah Mein (Indus in my soul), Dil Ji Duniya (The World of Heart), Jadanhen Maa'n Na Hoondus (When I Won't be There), Tareekh Jo Kafan (History's Coffin) and Munhinjo Dus Aasman Khan Puchho (Sky Would Give My Whereabouts).

His short stories’ collection Jadanhen Maa’n Na Hoondus had been published and banned during General Zia’s regime as its title story is about a prisoner and his rebellion thoughts. One reason of banning this book is said to be the coincidence of its publishing the same year when ex-premier Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged and authorities thought the matter it contained was about him.—Staff Reporter
