KARACHI: Incomplete syllabus baffles students of Class-IX

KARACHI, Feb 27: Both the students and teachers are perplexed following the decision of holding separate examination of SSC as their syllabus has not been completed.
Under the system of composite examination students of class IX were taught ten subjects pertaining to both SSC-I and II and after two years of study, they were to appear for a combined SSC exam.
Since, the decision of holding separate exams came at the eleventh hour, students are now in confusion as to whether the exams will be taken from the entire SSC-I books or from only those parts of the book which were taught to them.
Sources in the education circles said that there were two books of biology and chemistry for class ninth and in majority of schools, only book-I of both the subjects were taught due to the non-availability of book-II.
However, book publishers contested the claim saying that they had printed book-II of the biology and chemistry and it was available.
According to teachers, non-availability of books was not an issue but the issue was that the book-II could not be taught to students this year as they were being made to prepare for composite examination.
They said that the SSC-I exams were scheduled to held from May 15 and the book-II could not be taught in such a short period.
A meeting of the board’s academic committee comprising 25 members is scheduled to be held on Wednesday (Feb 28) afternoon to review and decide the syllabus for the upcoming examination of class IX.
As many as 175,000 students are expected to appear in the BSEK’s class IX exams this year commencing from May 15 while the date of examination for class X has not been changed and will start from April 17.
